First Day Alone...

HOMESICK!!!!
Can you even believe that I am already homesick? Literally! I can't eat, I can't sleep and the smell of Accra makes me ill.
I want to be home with Wasatch, Brock and the rest of my family and friends! I want air conditioning, Oreo's and Milk, chicken that doesn't have the feathers still attached and I want my iPhone to work!!!
Not the reason I am here though right?!? I need to get over it and start to give rather than thinking about what I want. I haven't been to the school for an actual volunteer day yet so all I've done is lay around and feel sorry for myself. But the smell...ugh!
I did stumble upon about 8 or 9 dogs in the backyard! WOW! Dogs are the security systems here in Accra. Luckily they could sense that I really liked them and we immediately warmed up to each other. One of the dogs had some sort of a melon in her mouth and for the life of me I couldn't figure out why she kept dropping it at my feet and then grabbing it back into her mouth as fast as she could while all of the other dogs skirted around her. Weird. Even the dogs in Ghana are weird....or maybe I just needed to be quicker than the little mutt at picking up the melon! They wanted me to play fetch with them! The dog with the blue collar on is the leader and she is the one who gave me about .0001 of a second to pick up their homemade ball before she snarled it back up! It doesn't matter what dog gets to the melon first, they carry it back but have to drop it about 3 feet from me so that the blue collared dog can carry it to me. Strangest thing I've seen in awhile....well maybe. I'm happy to have these dogs here though because not only are they my only friends right now but I get to hear them barking all night long which helps me feel soooo safe!!! ;)
This is my room while I am staying with Lydia. It does have air conditioning when the electricity is working, thank goodness!
Just a couple of pictures of the area I'm staying at:
This is the home where I am staying and the gate that keeps us nice and safe...you just have to honk if you want in or walk through if you can get past the dogs! There are three homes within this "compound" as you live close to family in Ghana. So one home is Momma and Papa Anno and the other is Auntie Anno's home (and then Lydia's).
Found this little beaut and all of his little buddies about to crawl up on me!!!!
Everything here is so different than what I am accustomed to and I know I need to give it time. I truly tear up every time I think of Wasatch and Brockers. I have spent so much time with them these past few months and feel somewhat alone without them. I know I need to make my new surroundings my home and I think once I get use to a few things here that will happen. But the smell is awful.
